Linux

Migrating to linux…

I’ve been giving some thought recently on jumping ship to linux on all (most) of my home computers. This is for several reasons, the main one being a desire to migrate away from the Microsoft OS. There are so many advantages to running linux (ease of setup is not one of them) but I’m sure proficiency will come with use.
I think this desire to switch stems from my desire to learn. I’ve used windows since the 3.11 days all the way to XP, and Microsoft windows is ALL I know. I’ve dabbled in unix while in university, but that so far ago, that I can’t really say that I know that much about unix.
This is just an opportunity to learn more about a subject that has always fascinated me. And now thechnology (or rather linux) has matured enough (at least I feel it has) that it’s easy enough to install and work with that I’m going to give it a chance.
Mind you, I’ll likely still keep WinXP on the laptop and dual boot on the workstation PC, so I’m planning on stopping my usage of windows on all machines at home.
I’ve already got a 700Mhz Athlon with 512Mb ram running suse 10.0 with great results, which is why I feel confident to switch other machines to Suse also.
